Vinnie's so cute. Growling and snorting as he tries to protect me from the big, scary... discarded Christmas tree we encountered on our walk.

Not his finest hour...

Or his greatest day.

So Vinnie had a rough day yesterday. It was a bit embarrassing, if you ask me, but of course he didn’t look or seem embarrassed at all. He’s always so happy-go-lucky, and takes everything in stride… Unfortunately, this includes his shenanigans and his mischief. If he could be a little less lackadaisical in that area, it would be great.

I had been dogsitting for a week, and just returned back home last night. Vinnie and I were equally ecstatic to see each other. I don’t think we’ve recovered from the absence from each other that my recent Spain trip required. Anyway, so yesterday we were hugging and kissing, and having a great time. I took him for a walk and then he accompanied me on a car ride to meet up with some friends for dinner. During the whole way up there, he was fogging up the windows (it couldn’t have been me…). I kept turning on the defrost, but then got too hot, so it went back and forth, back and forth. He also loves to try and climb into the front seat, so I had to keep pushing him into the back.

We finally got to the restaurant, and as soon as I opened the door, Vinnie jumped out into the pouring rain. I quickly stepped on the end of his leash so he couldn’t tear across the parking lot. When he reluctantly jumped back into the car, I saw that he left oily black footprints on my passenger seat. Yuck.

Dinner was great, of course. Afterwards, my friends wanted to see Vinnie, so we went out to get him. He was so excited to meet new people, and of course he couldn’t contain himself. He started peeing right there… Thank goodness it was raining, and so I doubt anyone noticed. Absolutely everything was wet out in the parking lot. He also dove for my friend’s crotch area, but for some reason I don’t think that’s as embarrassing as peeing everywhere.

When we got home, Vinnie went straight for this white towel that he loves to chew on. It’s pretty beat up, so I let him chew on it under supervision. Well, I didn’t provide that close of supervision last night, and I looked over at him just as he was gulping down a big piece of it. Poor Little Guy! It always sounds so disgusting when he swallows stuff he’s not supposed to… *gulp, cough, gulp* It seemed to really take a lot of effort to swallow a towel with nothing to wash it down with!

An hour later, as we were going to bed, I decided to give him one of his new toys that his great-grandparents Kathy and Jerry gave him for Christmas. It is an orange stuffed animal, supposedly a chicken, and it has a little squeaker in it. I had placed it on the dining room table before giving it to Vinnie, because I wanted to save it for bedtime. A few minutes before bed, he finally noticed something incredibly interesting on the table, and he kept eyeing it and trying to reach it by putting his 2 front paws up on a chair. I figured then was as good a time as any to go to bed, so off we went. I gave Vinnie the “chicken”, and he immediately started chewing away at it. It didn’t take him long to realize there was a squeaker inside, and soon after he was chomping on it ad nauseum.

I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth, and when I came back, Vinnie was crunching away on something. I looked at him curiously, but it wasn’t until I got closer that I realized it was the squeaker! In the 5 minutes that I had been absent from the bedroom, Vinnie had de-squeaked the poor chicken! He does this with all of his stuffed animal friends, but it usually takes him at least a couple of hours! I removed the squeaker from his mouth, and left him to move on to de-stuffing the poor little chick.

As if this weren’t enough, 5 minutes later Vinnie decided to pee in his bed. I am not sure what his problem was! We had just been outside half an hour before, and he seemed to do everything he needed to do… He hasn’t peed in his bed since he was 3 months old, and that was only because I couldn’t get him out in time.

So, needless to say, not his finest evening yesterday. But I love him so, so much. Sweet Little Guy.

Geez. 10 mins. after I give Vinnie his new toy, he rips the squeaker out. Not your best night, Little Guy.
Vinnie just swallowed a huge chunk of towel. Great.

Dogsitting: No matter how old or well-behaved the dogs seem, don't leave Chex Mix out in a plastic bag. Yeesh.
